Divided We Fall

It is an age old story. An old man summoned his sons and gave them a bundle of sticks to break. None could break a stick in the bundle. And then, the old man untied the bundle, and gave a stick to each son, which was easily broken by everyone.
Its such a common story that I am sure everyone on the planet have read or heard it before. Unfortunately, the story and its moral is forgotten by every Islamic country in the world, just as the orders about good deeds in the Holy Qur’an are forgotten. Muslims united under the guidance of prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) more than fourteen centuries ago. United, Muslims ruled much of the known world in the next few centuries, though the seeds of divisions among Muslims were sown, not long after prophet Muhammad’s (Peace be upon him) death. History is full of battles and betrayals among Muslim rulers. Consequently, they lost the power over the world because of their divisions.
There is a famous saying in English language, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” Islamic countries have been making fools of themselves for centuries. They experienced glorious times at the height of Umayya and Abbassi caliphates. And they went through rough times when those and other Islamic empires fell. They did not learn any lesson from that turbulent ride of power. Even after so many centuries and so many defeats because of their divisions, they are still divided, to this day.

There are at least 47 countries where Muslims are in majority. Almost every one of these countries has hatred for other Islamic countries in its region. Libya is the latest case in point. When the coalition of Christian countries, predominantly the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and France, attacked Libya shamelessly and unprovoked, none of the forty seven Islamic states had the courage or the desire to stand up for one of their own. In the recent history, Libya is the third Islamic country directly attacked by the coalitian of Christian countries, after Iraq and Afghanistan. Muslims around the world have rightfully, started asking, who is next. But whoever it is, rest assured, the rest of the Islamic countries will turn a blind eye, until its their turn.

(Just daydreaming..         All Islamic countries could put their militaries on high alert, informing the coalition of Christian countries that an attack on Libya or any other Islamic country will be considered as an attack on all Islamic countries. And that, Libya should be left alone to deal with her problems herself, just like any other country in the world. What would they do. Start the third world war? But again, like I said, Just daydreaming!)

War on terror equals might is right.

Following are the words, taken from Wikipedia.

Linguist George Lakoff of the Rockridge Institute has argued that there cannot literally be a war on terror, since terror is an abstract noun. “Terror cannot be destroyed by weapons or signing a peace treaty. A war on terror has no end.”

Drone Attacks and Pakistani Missiles

How ironic it is that these two news are set in the newspaper right next to each other.

What good are all those missiles, our military is developing, if they cannot be used to protect its citizens. Yes, citizens and not terrorists. The news clearly states that in at least one drone attack, twelve people were killed, out of which, only three were ALLEGED terrorists. So, what about the rest of the nine people. Were they rats? And even the three ALLEGED terrorists, did they not have a right to prove their innocence. Who gave anybody the right to kill anybody, on the basis of allegations, without a trial in a court?

I am sure, Allama Iqbal said the following, for occasions like these.

“Jis khait say dehqan ko mayassar na ho rozi..

us khait ke her khosha-e-gundum ko jala do”.

People’s Representatives

Being a Pakistani, have you ever wondered how or why, Pakistanis are being lebeled as terrorists, around the globe. Take a look at this piece of news.

Now, here is a perfect example of the kind who are representing the people of Pakistan on national and international levels.

Proud Pakistani

Reading a local newspaper yesterday, I came across a report on an article posted in “The Wall Street Journal” about Pakistan. The title of the article is “The Myth of Moderate Pakistan”. The author of the article is “Sadanand Dhume”, an Indian writer based in Washington D.C. For those interested in reading the article, here is a link

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703386704576185843562595056.html

The article, in a nutshell, is the traditional mentality of an average Indian, still refusing to accept the fact that Pakistan is a sovereign state. Every word of the article reflects the deep-seated hatred of the author against Islam and Pakistan. Sadanand Dhume has a few publications under his name according to wikipedia, almost all of which are centered upon hate against Islam. Here is the link through wikipedia to those publications. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sadanand_Dhume

But staying on the topic, I would like to address the issues Sadanand Dhume has raised in his recent publication in the journal.

First and foremost, he has pointed out that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Taliban murdered the Pakistani politician Shahzad Bhatti. It is no secret that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Taliban is a terrorist organization which has no affiliation with the Talibans in Afghanistan. The Afghani Talibans have rejected the idea on numerous occasions. It is a shameful attempt by the anti-Islam terrorists like the CIA and others to defame Islam and counter the popularity of Islam among the followers of other religions. Anyone who has the slightest interest in Pakistan’s current affairs knows that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Taliban was created by CIA for this very purpose. Here is a link to an article detailing the links between CIA and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Taliban, for those with doubts. http://warincontext.org/2011/02/27/cia-linked-to-pakistan-taliban/

In the fifth paragraph of his article, Sadanand Dhume could no longer hide his intent and went on to display his belief that Islamic ideas are wrong. The article reads

“Islamist parties may not garner large-scale electoral support, but Islamist ideas are widely tolerated by mainstream political parties.”,

.. So in his view, Islamic ideas are wrong or bad. For some strange reason, I have a notion, Sadanand Dhume must have been briefed by other Muslims, what Islam stands for and what it does not stand for. Terrorism is one thing Islam definitely does not stand for and Pakistan Tehkree-e-Taliban is not an Islamic organization. But, I have no intention of wasting my time to try to explain it to anybody, especially to people who are not listening.

Eighth paragraph of the article opens with author’s remarks about the infamous “Anti-American sentiments”. Sadanand Dhume goes on to explain that Pakistan is the country where the American favor ratings are at 17%, least among the countries surveyed by the Pew Global Attitudes Project. I wonder why? Let’s see, America is such a peace-loving country. It is the only country whose leaders had the hearts to kill quarter of a million people in an instant with its atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It is a nation who has been constantly at war even before its creation, but more importantly, thousands of miles away from its own borders, on other nations’ soils in the more recent times, which most people around the world (some even in the United States itself) call intervention and occupation. http://americanhistory.about.com/library/timelines/bltimelineuswars.htm.   It’s agencies like CIA is always busy in illegal activities around the globe. http://www.huppi.com/kangaroo/CIAtimeline.html. The list can go on for the heroic deeds of this peace-loving nation called The United States of America, and then they have the guts to go out in the world and conduct surveys about who likes them most. Well excuse me, it seems like those surveys are only meant to find out who is aware of the American atrocities and who is not. Being a Pakistani, I am proud to know that we are atop the list who know what is going on.

In the ninth paragraph, Sadanand Dhume has again blamed Islam calling the terrorism by the CIA and its’ likes, “intolerance” embedded in the founding idea of a separate land for Indian Muslims. Once again, it only shows that the author could not keep his hatred for Islam at bay. In the tenth and eleventh paragraphs, he has tried to pose himself as a well-wisher of Pakistan who wants to find ways to rid Pakistan of it’s problem, “Islam”. And the means, he wishes to achieve this, is through “social networks and satellite television”. Something, which has already been in effect for at least last 20 years.

In the end, being a Pakistani, scratch that, being a proud Pakistani, I would like to reply directly to Sadanand Dhume, in response to this article.

“We, the Pakistani nation, are already in a bad shape, not because of your mental delusions, but because of our own corrupt leaders. We do not need stupid advice from well-wishers like yourself to worsen our situation. Rest assured, Pakistan will see better days with sincere poeple in power. Until then, you can continue to wet your pants thinking of that time, and see if anyone in the world cares.”

Mind your own business.

Pakistan’s prime minister Mr. Yousuf Raza Gilani paid a visit today to “Nine Zero”. After meeting with the MQM leadership there, he decided to reverse a recent fuel price hike. A very welcoming decision indeed, for the common man in Pakistan. A decision every Pakistani, and not only MQM, had been demanding since that fuel price hike. What’s really frustrating is that the decision to reverse the fuel price hike was taken only after the prime minister realized that he had lost all his allies, and could lose his Government as a result. Protests on the streets by the citizens had nothing to do with this decision. Decisions like this, make a common man wonder if he even exists in the eyes of this Government.

Reacting to the news of price hike reversal, the US secretary of state, Hillary Clinton has called this decision a mistake. According to her, “the Government of Pakistan must reform its economic laws and regulations, including those that affect fuel and its cost”. And it looks like, in her opinion, the only way to do that is to make everything too expensive for common man to afford. A have read a number of reactions to Mrs. Clinton’s remarks on different news websites. Most people telling her to mind her own business. Here is my reaction to her statement. Mrs. Clinton, I dare you to come to Pakistan, try finding a job here without your fancy dancy American citizenship just like a common Pakistani, and when you do get a job worth a few thousand rupees, let me know how you feel about these price hikes every few days. Until then, yes everybody else is right when they say, “MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS”.
